Cheap Eats in Ohrid: Gyros, Burgers, Burek and Street Food (2026)

A slice of pizza in Ohrid costs 60 denari. A gyro on the old town's main street is 240. A burek straight out of the oven at six in the morning is 75, and the cold jogurt next to it is 20. Ohrid in August can empty a wallet fast if you eat every meal on the кеј with a lake view — but two streets back, the town still feeds itself the way it always has, and nothing on this page costs more than 320 denari.

The Gyro Run

The smell of gyro meat turning on a spit has quietly become an Ohrid smell, and Gyro Square on Car Samoil — the stone street every tourist walks twice a day — is the place doing it at volume. Chicken, pork or mixed gyro is 240 denari, the XL is 290, and honestly the regular feeds a person who's been swimming all afternoon. Toast from 140, hot dog 130, a cold Coca-Cola 100. It runs to midnight on weekdays and 02:00 Friday through Sunday, which matters at the exact hour it matters.

Two more gyro stops worth knowing: Letnica on the city square does a chicken gyro for 200 — the cheapest in the centre — plus souvlaki skewers at 250, and Pink Panter does a gyro combo with fries for 320.

Burgers Under 300

Skip the hotel-restaurant burger. Fast Food 10 near the old plane tree keeps it simple: hamburger 150, cheeseburger 170, the double at 250 for big appetites. Petka Burgers on Turistichka is the one locals argue for — a smash burger at 220 that comes off the plate мевце-soft in the middle, crisp at the edges, and the дупли петка at 320 if you're not planning to eat again. Note: Petka closes Sundays.

Pink Panter again for the night shift — hamburger with fries as a 290 combo, open until 02:00 every single day of the week. When everything else in Ohrid has gone dark, the pink sign hasn't.

Burek at Dawn

Burek is Macedonia's working breakfast: layered pastry, thin as paper, filled with meat or white cheese, baked in rounds and cut into quarters. Ohrid City Bakery opens at 06:00 and does it properly — burek with meat 75, with cheese 70, pizza burek 75, plain пецива from 25. Take a jogurt (20 denari — a drinkable yoghurt, colder the better) and eat it standing up like everyone else. Burek with cold jogurt is the one Macedonian breakfast I'll defend against any hotel buffet in the country. Go before 10:00; bakeries bake in the morning and the good trays don't last. Doors close at 16:00.

If you want breakfast at a table instead, Plate Bistro serves omelettes until noon from 180 — still cheap, just with a chair.

Pizza by the Slice

Pizza Calabria sells пица парче — pizza by the slice — for 60 denari, the cheapest hot food in this whole guide. A small Margherita is 160, a döner sandwich 130, and it's one of the few places in town with free delivery, which turns a rented-apartment evening into a solved problem. Open to midnight, 01:00 on Friday and Saturday.

The lake view costs about 30%. The same style of food two streets uphill from the кеј is consistently cheaper. Walk the two streets.

Late night = Pink Panter or Gyro Square. After midnight those are your honest options; after 02:00, it's tomorrow's burek you're waiting for.

Burek is a morning food. Bakeries bake at dawn and wind down by early afternoon — City Bakery closes at 16:00 sharp.

Sunday shrinks the list. Petka is closed, Fast Food 10 closes at 18:00. Gyro Square and Pink Panter carry the day.
